My job as a Systems Administrator for the University
of Georgia Libraries is always
interesting ... and challenging! Monitoring, managing,
troubleshooting, and maintaining the Libraries' network
and all of the various aspects of the LAN, including servers
and desktops; certainly keeps me and serveral other support
specialists quite busy and there is plenty of work for
everyone. Without the always capable talents of fellow
Network Operations & Computer Support team members, we
could not begin to offer the quality of service and support
that is vital to the Libraries' day to day
operations.
I am the lead for the administration, operation, and
monitoring of over a dozen Windows servers. NOCS supports and maintains
over 400 staff workstations, some 200 public workstations and more than 30
networked printers. On a typical day a significant amount of our work time
is spent just keeping the production systems maintained and functioning
properly.
In the Summer and early Fall of 2006 Debbie and I backpacked
the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail ... from Springer Mountain to
Bly Gap in North Carolina and on to Wayah Gap. In Summer 2007 we continued our
adventure and walked from Wayah Gap to Lake Fontana on the edge of the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park. Debbie took most of the pictures in these slide shows.
